Private 1 on 1 Classes to Learn to Groom Your Own Dog

Have you ever wanted to learn to groom your own dog? Dog Diversity offers one-on-one classes to teach you exactly that!

Simply bring your pooch in, freshly washed and dried, and one of our trainers will guide you through the steps to creating that salon look at home.

We have all the equipment here for you to use, and can guide you expertly should you wish to purchase your own - we'll even give you a student discount for tools on the day!

Additionally, you will receive a 2 week complimentary student membership to igroomhub.com.au (our online, evergreen dog grooming education platform) for further learning or a memory jog.

WHICH CLASS SHOULD I CHOOSE?

We have 2 class types - the 3 hour and the 4 hour. Choose the 4 hour class if your dog fits any of these criteria:

  • Weighs over 15kg

  • Stands taller than your knee when standing next to you (the dog’s spine, not their head)

  • Is a Standard Poodle, Labradoodle, “Cobberdog”, Groodle, Borderdoodle, Bernadoodle, Shepadoodle, Giant Schnauzer or similar. A big dog!

  • Any sized Poodle if you want to learn Poodle Points - ie top knot, shaved face, poodle feet, poodle tail

  • At Dog Diversity, the dog’s welfare is our number 1 priority. If your dog is matted or extremely knotted we cannot guarantee you will be able to complete your learning safely. We may need to take over in cases of severe pelting to lower the risk of injury to the dog. We cannot guarantee you will leave the class with a complete groom. If we assess your dog and deem it to be in a matted condition, we will get you to sign a matting form prior to class commencement.

  • We recommend at least 3 grooms with your groomer before you try to learn to groom your OWN puppy. You will find it very hard to learn on a wriggly little body! Get your pup used to being groomed and THEN book a class. Trust us - it will be so much better for you both.

You can help your puppy along with getting comfortable by using a hair dryer on him, gently and only a warm setting. Make sure you play with her paws and get them used to being touched. If you have an electric toothbrush, this does a good job of mimicking a clipper sound - buzz it gently near him, on his coat. Remember to use positive reinforcement, and reward reward reward good behaviour with treats!

Puppies also tire easily (they are so busy growing and exploring) and it is unfair to ask a pup to stand on a table for up to three hours. We will take lots of breaks for your pup’s comfort. ♥

  • Similar to puppies, Senior dogs can tire easily and often have a lot of trouble standing for extended periods. We will take lots of breaks to support your Senior.

Seniors often do best with comfort grooms, as they have worn out their ability to tolerate any complicated styling. We will always keep the dog’s best interst in mind in each particular circumstance.
